Well, it's been a minute.

Hey anyone who reads these. It's been a minute. I will be honest, I kind of forgot all about this until a friend reminded me and I figured, you know what? I have some new projects I wouldn't mind sharing. So in this post covid lockdown kind of world I have been getting into a new(ish) game known as Marvel Crisis Protocol. It launched just as I was getting out of the Knight Models DCUMG game (due to some terrible customer service on their part) and was looking to scratch the quick, fun, rules-light miniature game itch. Marvel Crisis Protocol, to put it lightly, knocks it out of the park. It's quick to learn, has a very solid rule set, and is made by a group who have been working on games I have loved (Warmachine and Guildball), and they really know the Marvel lore.

Also, the sculpts are pretty damned great. Admittedly, there have been a few that have fallen a little flat, but those ones are the exceptions. As a rule, they're usually dynamic and heaps of fun to paint. When it comes to assembly, they're not quite on a level with Malifaux, but they are a bit fiddlier than the average 40k model.

Some photos of some of the teams below. I will endeavor to take and upload more pics of my collection in the coming weeks.

Spider-Foes, one of my absolute favorite affiliations.

Web Warriors, also a tonne of fun to play.

Inhumans, have yet to get them on the table, but I am looking forward to trying them out.

Marvel, DC and Knight Models

Hi all, been a while. As always life does tend to get in the way and most of my free time goes to hobby (not blogging). While I am still playing Malifaux I am also investing some time in the Marvel Universe Miniatures Game and the DC Universe Miniatures Game (both courtesy of Knight Models). Though they no longer have access to the Marvel license, the models they released are amazing and the rules are completely compatible with the DC Universe game that they are currently producing. I've played some games and even run some demo's at Stratagem Games (FLGS) and the game is an absolute blast.

While Malifaux helps scratch the itch of a great in-depth strategic wargame where each turn you're planning how to best achieve your goals, this game leans more towards a fast paced, fun and light game that is quick to learn, easy to understand and somehow manages to evoke an awesome cinematic feel. As a bonus the models are absolutely gorgeous and generally very easy to assemble.

In the lead up to the demo's I was painting like a mad man and am still trying to keep up the same determination so I can get my whole collection painted. I picked up very nearly the whole Marvel line before they went out of stock as well as ordering my first DC team and have really enjoyed getting paint onto them. I do have to say that I still hate painting yellow and a disturbingly high number of super heroes seem to make use of it in their outfits. The current line up of painted models are below...

The Avengers.

The Dark Avengers

X-Men

The Guardians of the Galaxy

Some late comers to the Avengers and Dark Avengers.

Another Avenger and Guardian

The most recently painted Avengers.

My one and only DC team, The Crime Syndicate.

The hope is that as I get some more games in I will attempt to turn one of them into a battle report. Probably just some pictures with a run down rather than a video (because that would probably be much easier). So stay tuned, though you probably shouldn't hold your breath.

Making a scene....ry

Hey People,

It's been a while since my last update so nothing new there. Went on a honeymoon tour of Europe which was awesome and since I've been back, I've been getting back into the hobby. Still guildballing my heart out but while I was away my wargaming friends started in on Malifaux. So I had a look. Big mistake.

Anyway I am now the proud owner of two of the Ten Thunders faction starters and am really enjoying it. Still getting the hang of things, it's strange to play a game that is solely focused on scenarios. Granted those scenarios might include murdering your opponent, but not always. Regardless I am having a blast and we've been talking about the possibility of making some battle reports. That being a possibility I really wanted to have:
a) a painted army.
b) a sweet looking table.

So I went out and bought a big pile of PlastCraft ColorED scenery. I mostly went for the Fukei style look to go with the Ten Thunders but also got a few shacks and walkways from the Malifaux branch seeing as I decided on a swamp theme mat. Just for something different from my others.

And there you have it. $180 of scenery and a fair amount of superglue and I have a very nice looking table ready for some serious Malifaux-ing. All that's left is maybe a few trees and some painted mini's.

Until next time...

More Butchering

Returning to the painting table again today I finished up with the final touches on Boar and painted up Ox and Princess. I'm really happy with how the High-Vis paint job is coming along and think the basing is also looking pretty good.

Taking some advice from the Steamforged Forums I decided not to apply any weathering effects to 'dirty up' the players a little as it would run the risk of dulling down the bright orange and silver that the entire team is based around.

Final touches on Boar to paint up his base and apply just a little dirt to his bare foot so it looked like he had been running through the mud.

Team Captain (or one of).

Team Mascot. I'm particularly happy with the black and tan colouration and how well it came out. She's looking like a properly savage little pooch.

Post Guildball League

Hey all, I know my last post was about my first tournament but this is about my first league. After the previous tournament, a bunch of us started talking about a league. I played a fishermen team called "Salts Farewell Tour" seeing as Tentacles was due to be released just after the tournament finished up. Did quite well overall managing to snag the Golden Boot award for most goals scored and finishing up with third overall.

I really wish I had taken some notes or something so I could give a run down on the various rounds and matches but alas, maybe next time. Safe to say if was a heap of fun and a great way for me to get a handle on Corsair and some Attrishamen style play. Forcing yourself to play a team you know very little about every few weeks over a couple of months really helps you to feel out a teams strengths and weaknesses.

Since then I have also picked up a second hand Butchers team and started painting them up today. First off the rank is Boar, mostly because he seems like an easy guy to trial a colour scheme on. I was thinking how to make my butchers stand out from all the others out there so decided to paint them all wearing high-vis.

After taking this shot I realised that I had really messed up the stubble look. If I was going to give him stubble on his head then he really needed it on the rest of his face. Hence the next few photos.

First time trying to paint stubble and I think it came off well, also first time really painting with orange and I'm very happy with how it came together. It took a couple of layers to really get the orange up to a shade I was happy with starting from a very deep red and slowly moving up to the very bright orange you see above. Hopefully there will be several more from the Butchers team to follow.

Guild Ball - First Tournament

Hey readers, first off. I finished painting my guild ball team, as you can see above. Jac is missing from the photo but he is painted too. Anyways, a couple of work mates and I went to a local tournament at Gamagori last weekend. Total of 8 guild ball players turned up which made for a good turn out. I faced off against Brewers first (my first time against them as well) and unfortunately got a 10 - 12 loss (that's right sports fans, the fish got a take out against brewers.) against one of the guys I work with who then went on to win the tournament... so I didn't feel too bad. Second match against my other workmate bringing alchemists. 8 - 12 loss this time. One of the great things about this game is even a loss usually still feels like you're in the game right up to the last minute. On a side note ... when Midas steals "Unleash the ..." from Kraken you're going to have a bad time.

My last game was a 12 - 8 win and it was a Fishermen perfect mirror match. Same exact teams. I felt pretty confident as my opponent was not overly familiar with fish while this was the team I had the most play time with. In the end it was Shark who broke away for the final goal ending yet another close match. All in all it was a really fun day, got to play against Brewers for the first time and while I had heard about it I was still surprised at the amount of damage they can put out in a turn.

At the end of the day I had a lot of fun, met some great players and may have been talked into joining a league, but I will keep you posted on that if I do.

Busy times.

Well anyone who knows me knows that my fiance is away for this month visiting family halfway around the world. While this is a little sad it does allow me a lot of free time to shift some of my projects off the "in progress" shelf to the "FINISHED!" pile. And on that note I have finally finished painting and scenerising my first dice tower which, though it has seen a lot of use has been a large unpainted blob of white on my gaming table.

I am really pleased with how this turned out. Though the paint job is moderately basic it really adds a lot of character to the table while also being functional.

Next cab off the rank is some more characters for Frostgrave. I picked up a couple of mini's a while ago from reaper because I loved the sculpt but never thought I would find a use for them. Now I present my Illusionist and his Apprentice.

One of the reasons I really like Frostgrave is because it is fun and not too serious. Its a pretty quick game that you can enjoy with friends without anyone getting too caught up in rules and minutiae. I also painted up a Genie for the Genie scenario.

Last but by no means least myself and some of the guys I work with have been playing a lot of proxy Guild Ball to decide if we were going to buy in on another game. We've been having a blast with it and I have just picked up a fisherman starter box. While I waited for that I put together two custom goals for my fish team.

As always it's been a lot of fun painting and modding and hopefully in the next week or two I'll add some pics of a freshly painted guild ball team.
