Guild Ball - First Tournament

Hey readers, first off. I finished painting my guild ball team, as you can see above. Jac is missing from the photo but he is painted too. Anyways, a couple of work mates and I went to a local tournament at Gamagori last weekend. Total of 8 guild ball players turned up which made for a good turn out. I faced off against Brewers first (my first time against them as well) and unfortunately got a 10 - 12 loss (that's right sports fans, the fish got a take out against brewers.) against one of the guys I work with who then went on to win the tournament... so I didn't feel too bad. Second match against my other workmate bringing alchemists. 8 - 12 loss this time. One of the great things about this game is even a loss usually still feels like you're in the game right up to the last minute. On a side note ... when Midas steals "Unleash the ..." from Kraken you're going to have a bad time.

My last game was a 12 - 8 win and it was a Fishermen perfect mirror match. Same exact teams. I felt pretty confident as my opponent was not overly familiar with fish while this was the team I had the most play time with. In the end it was Shark who broke away for the final goal ending yet another close match. All in all it was a really fun day, got to play against Brewers for the first time and while I had heard about it I was still surprised at the amount of damage they can put out in a turn.

At the end of the day I had a lot of fun, met some great players and may have been talked into joining a league, but I will keep you posted on that if I do.

Busy times.

Well anyone who knows me knows that my fiance is away for this month visiting family halfway around the world. While this is a little sad it does allow me a lot of free time to shift some of my projects off the "in progress" shelf to the "FINISHED!" pile. And on that note I have finally finished painting and scenerising my first dice tower which, though it has seen a lot of use has been a large unpainted blob of white on my gaming table.

I am really pleased with how this turned out. Though the paint job is moderately basic it really adds a lot of character to the table while also being functional.

Next cab off the rank is some more characters for Frostgrave. I picked up a couple of mini's a while ago from reaper because I loved the sculpt but never thought I would find a use for them. Now I present my Illusionist and his Apprentice.

One of the reasons I really like Frostgrave is because it is fun and not too serious. Its a pretty quick game that you can enjoy with friends without anyone getting too caught up in rules and minutiae. I also painted up a Genie for the Genie scenario.

Last but by no means least myself and some of the guys I work with have been playing a lot of proxy Guild Ball to decide if we were going to buy in on another game. We've been having a blast with it and I have just picked up a fisherman starter box. While I waited for that I put together two custom goals for my fish team.

As always it's been a lot of fun painting and modding and hopefully in the next week or two I'll add some pics of a freshly painted guild ball team.

A long gap and Frostgrave!

Yet again, it's kind of been a while since I posted last. As always it takes something new to fire up my imagination and get me painting again. I've been working through a fair few miniatures for IKRPG which has been a lot of fun. We're running an Iron Kingdoms FMF and an Unleashed campaign side by side.

On another note I was interested a while ago when i saw a 'Nickstarter' for Frostgrave which looked like fun but I didn't have the funds to back it at the time. Since then I saw the basic rule book on Book Depository for $28 and thought "Why not?"

I read a fair few reviews and watched a battle report or two and decided to take the plunge. The big selling point was that I had backed Reaper Mini's Bones II kickstarter a while back and had a big box of random mini's that would be perfect for this game. I've been reading through the book and writing up a couple of different wizards.

Once I started looking at a couple of different 'builds' (this game has so many different combinations for your wizard.) I decided to raid the Bones box to see what I could use. I decided to paint up two different pairs of Wizard and Apprentice. One pair is a Necromancer with his little buddy and the other is an Elementalist with his showboating apprentice.

Necromancer is in purple with his apprentice in green. Elementalist is in red with his apprentice in blue.

And once again from the back.

Couldn't resist a zoomed in shot of the necromancer raising a friendly zombie to aid him.

I will probably work on a warband soon (or more likely paint up another wizard and apprentice), and hopefully pick up a game or two, either against the guys from work/ikrpg or pick up a game at one of the wargaming clubs around town.

Wrath continued...

Just a quick update. Finished my two Longhorns for Nasier. I have decided to do the Nasier with Japanese Kabuki style masks and in the same theme the others as Oni. Hence these two, one fire and one water. The others will be along similar lines but I cannot wait to get more painted up. The Hadross side are also still coming along. Deepman Kaxes and Guardian coming up next.

Wrath of Kings

As always it's been a while. Life has a tendency to get in the way of regular blogging. However when something new comes along I want to share it. I kickstarted Wrath of Kings a long time ago and have been eagerly awaiting my models. I backed Hadross and Nasier. I've been assembling away and honestly (and I've read some complaints that the models are fiddly and hard to put together) I find that they fit phenomenally well. None of the gaps that you get from Privateer Press (I love their stuff but sometimes the pieces really don't fit well).

I'm hoping to get a few games out as there is a small community of other kickstarters here in Perth, but until then I will continue painting and preparing my force.

To begin with, I've painted up some of my fish people ... well crab people and jellyfish men.

I will also add that this has been my first attempt at non-metallic metals and I am quite happy with the results. Gives a different look to the models that I really like.

Dice Tower Terrain.

Hey readers, mostly finished on a project I started a while ago and thought I would share. I bought a two pack of laser cut MDF dice towers for $17 and wanted to turn them into something I would like to actually see on a table. Looking around on Combat Company and found some textured plasticard. I picked up a couple of packs of Cobblestone and Roof Tiles.

Basic Dice Tower.

Disassembled.

Using the disassembled external pieces as templates I cut matching pieces out of the plasticard.

Cobblestone walls.

To attach the walls I had to cut some pieces of my old square plastic rods (courtesy of Back 2 Base-ix) to fit into the corners created when fitting the MDF together. Using some wood glue to hold the pieces together I then glued the plastic rods onto the dice tower.

Note the two tiny pieces. They will be attached to the plasticard sheeting but don't actually attach to the tower itself.

The tiny piece is in the bottom left.

The plasticard is then glued directly on to these plastic rods. There will be a few gaps along the corners but these will be filled in with a little green stuff later.

The small piece will glue to the plasticard here for the front sheeting to attach to.

Like so.

Continue gluing the sheeting on and soon enough the dice tower will look like this. I already green-stuffed the seams.

Next, the roof. I cut two triangular roof sections and measured out how large I wanted the roof.

Again, using square pieces of plastic rod and a little green stuff I glued the roof section to the two triangular sections. I also used a small section of roof tile, bent at a right angle, to cap the roof seam. You'll also notice two pieces of plain plasticard glued behind the triangular sections. These will hold the roof section in place.

Now that the roof is assembled it should fit very nicely onto the dice tower.

Dice Tower without the roof.

Dice Tower with roof.

All that remains now is to get a few coats of paint onto it. Once it's been painted there will be more pics to follow. I hope you enjoyed the little tutorial I put together. Personally I really like the way it looks and I look forward to using it for my next Warmachine game. The second tower is not quite finished but is very close behind.

After looking at the tower I felt it was missing something so I went back and created a small entrance to the tower. I cut out 3 wall pieces, marked and cut out the door, using a figure to get the height correct. I saved the cut out section to make the door itself, scoring it to make it look like wooden planks. I then glued the wall sections together using square rods to brace the corners and cut and glued on a roof as I did to the main tower above. I used a small amount of green stuff to then attach the entrance to the main tower. I apologise for the lack of pictures of the construction process, I will endeavour to save some when I construct the second dice tower. I think the addition of an entrance finishes the look of the dice tower as a terrain piece.

Been a while...

Like the title says, its been far too long since I last posted anything on here. Seeing as a few people asked for pics of my Norse team that has been in progress for a few months now I thought I would lead off with that. As you can see they're assembled, some are basecoated. I'm still a little unsure on the paint scheme but I do like the dark green for these guys. I have also come up with a name for the team.

I give you... The Thor Norsemen of the Apocalypse.

Thrower and Snow Troll/Yhetee.

Blitzers.

Linemen.

Yet more Linemen.

Ulfwerners.

Ulfwerners again!

Runners.

After seeing some of the teams at this years Sandgroper Cup (amazing weekend of bloodbowl!) I am well aware that my painting still needs a lot of work. Still, the only thing I can do is keep at it and hope people like the conversions. I actually have yet more teams in progress, halfling, lizardmen, dark elves, skaven, slann and nurgle. But these are the closest to being completed so all I can do is keep at it and bring you more pics and conversions as they happen.
